There is no doubt that 2010 has seen tragic events in daycare / dayhomes in our city. Our hearts go out to those impacted by these events, at the same time I hope you read this and remember the good.

I am a proud grandfather to a wonderful little boy that goes to daycare regularly. I know that when he is there he is loved, watched over and cared for. As a family we have entrusted these people with our little man and we are confident he is in good hands. I firmly believe he benefits from his interaction with the staff and his peers.

Never doubt that I will be ever vigilant in his safety and security. It is scary thing to know that we realistically cannot ABSOLUTELY guarantee nothing will ever happen to him. It is comforting to know that when he is at daycare he is with people that feel the same way about him as I do.

While we all cherish children especially those of us lucky enough to have grandchildren we have to be ever vigilant to realize that there are amongst us individuals who through mental defect or other causes are unable to handle the daily stresses of life and are willing to take these stresses out on those unable to defend themselves whether they are children or the elderly. Caregivers in daycares and homes for the aged should always work together in a minimum staff of two people to ensure the safety of the young and aged.
